Auto Company Investing Opportunities

The 2011 North American International Auto Show is underway in Detroit this week, and the publicity seems to be all positive. The event will showcase 40 new vehicles manufactured by companies from around the world. I’m not interested in buying a new car, but I enjoy seeing the fancy new cars and eco-friendly smaller cars. Automakers are expecting to sell about 12% more cars and light trucks in 2011 compared to a solid year in 2010. There will be many new hybrid and electric vehicles and sedans, crossovers, and SUVs with more fuel-efficient combustion engines, including several new models...

Readers’ Top Investing Rules

Last week I discussed 20 investing rules for 2011. If you missed the issue, you can read it here. This week, I have some rules for you that were sent in by readers. Thanks to everyone who wrote in. If you have some to add, please send them to me by commenting here. Enjoy! The stocks in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Value Index are up 10.7% thus far in 2010 (through 12/13/10), and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Growth Index is up 12.6% during the same period. Dividends, which are not included in the gains, were 37% higher for the stocks in the Value Index. And the Value Index had less volatility. Chances are, if you use a...

Two Great Insurance Stocks

December 14, 2010
By

Last week my Advisory led off with a question from a man concerned about “building a Family Legacy For Future Generations.” One of my readers, Bradley K., was kind enough to send this response: “Tell the reader who is worried about estate building to buy life insurance.  Proceeds are not income taxable, & policy ownership can be arranged to avoid estate taxes too. Spendthrift provisions can be arranged thru the use of life insurance trusts. “Whole Life is not subject to the vagaries of the market, either.  Don’t buy Universal Life or Variable Life for this purpose.” For the record,...
