Three Top Travel Stocks

January 31, 2011

I’ve mentioned here before my deep love of travel, so it’s no surprise that I’ve got big plans for my honeymoon, happening later this year. My fiancé and I discussed many possibilities: Australia (possibly too far), Costa Rica (not the right time of year), Hawaii (might do that as a vacation with our families at some point), and the list goes on. We finally decided we’d like to go to Europe, as we both love it and have barely scratched the surface of what’s to see there. When we finally narrowed down which country we’d like to go to,...

Stock Market Analysis Video: Leader Action

In this week’s Stock Market Analysis Video, Cabot China & Emerging Markets Report Editor Paul Goodwin says that it’s been a good week in the market, as the S&P 500 remains in an uptrend. My stock tip today is an emerging markets stock that made a splash when it came public in the U.S. in early December. It’s E-Commerce China Dangdang (DANG), an online bookseller that’s being called “the Amazon of China.” There’s plenty of precedent for calling a company “the _______ of China,” including Ctrip.com (the Expedia of China) and Baidu (the Google of China). And the implication that a similar business proposition will prosper in China as it has in the U.S. is actually fairly sound. Dangdang had six million active customers in 2009 and sales of $298 million. In a...

Dispelling A Popular Myth About Options

Last month, I explained some of the basics of options and showed you how buying puts and calls can benefit investors. You can read that issue here. In the beginning of the article, I mentioned that approximately 75% of options expire worthless. And while that statistic may be true, it’s misleading because there are a huge number of options written that are designed to expire worthless. Let me explain this last point a little bit. Let’s say that XYZ Trading Group thinks that the S&P 500 SPDR (SPY), trading just above 129, has topped out and won’t go any...
