There are literally thousands of companies from which to choose, but only a handful possess near-perfect growth records. Many years ago, I developed a system to measure the growth consistency of a company’s earnings and dividends. Companies that have increased their earnings and dividends at least 10% in each of the past 10 years receive a perfect score. I wanted to write briefly about getting started in chart reading.  I’ve found that most investors make a few mistakes early on that can be easily avoided. Clean Harbors (CLH): Invest in the Gulf Oil Spill Clean Up

This week brought new developments in the BP oil spill saga. First, a judge overturned the moratorium on deep-water drilling. Then the containment cap that had been collecting some of the oil was knocked off (it has since been replaced). The U.S. government recently said that 60,000 barrels of oil could be flowing into the Gulf every day. At that rate, an amount equivalent to the Exxon Valdez disaster could be spewing into the Gulf every four days.
