Readers’ Sound Off on the National Debt

We’ve been having a very lively discussion on the blog lately about the national debt. You can read about it here and here. I received a few more comments in my inbox this morning that I wanted to share with you. Don’t forget to leave yours after this post:

You can come up with all sorts of “answers,” but until employment is restored, we are not going to get anywhere.  The government must give everyone who is able to work a job, and a livable income with it.  Many people who are on welfare, DSSI, etc. could work but the net income received is not enough to provide and incentive to go to work.  Health care should be mandated by executive order.  If Clinton couldn’t get it done, who can?  How are we going to beat the special interests, when the very senators that have to approve health care depend on these special interests for campaign contributions.  Other industrialized nations have had universal health care and old age coverage for decades.  Why don’t we copy what they did?

Your readers had some good sounding suggestions, but they will never work.  The congress has never voted to limit how long they can stay in office and they never will.  Ask yourself. would you ever vote for a bill that would send you to the unemployment line.  As for the taxes on foreign goods economics 101 explains why; trade helps both countries involved.  The solution is simple, vote against any incumbent as my family and me do. If you live in a state that has write in voting and do not like either candidate write in Lamont Cranston.  For those who did not watch programs on the radio as I did and don’t know who Lamont Cranston was Google the Quote, “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?”   The final solution to the national debt is to contact anyone running for president and let them know that the only way they will get your vote is to swear under oath that they will veto all spending bills.  this way the important things will get an override but all the pork will not get the 2/3s vote required for an override.
